Dr Bobbijo Pinnelli
Walden University; Minneapolis, Minnesota

When Dr. Bobbijo Pinnelli joined AALHE in 2021, it didn’t take long for her to dive headfirst into the organization’s activities, volunteering on multiple committees, including the Professional Development Committee. It was through her involvement here that she first crossed paths with Ruth Slotnik from Bridgewater State University during a panel discussion—an encounter that would spark a powerful collaboration.

It wasn’t long before the AALHE network worked its magic. Yao Hill, Chair of the AALHE Assessment Learning Exchange (ALE) Committee, saw an opportunity and reached out to both Ruth and Bobbijo with an exciting idea: a learning community focused on the intersection of AI and assessment professionals. This is how Java Jams was born—a collaborative space where assessment professionals could explore and learn about the potential of generative AI.

Since then, Bobbijo and Ruth have teamed up on several initiatives, and their latest venture has expanded to include Joanna Boeing at Bridgewater State University. Together, they are gathering crucial insights into how assessment professionals currently utilize generative AI, aiming to push the boundaries of innovation in the field.

Their story is the perfect example of how the AALHE network fosters collaboration and sparks new ideas—uniting professionals nationwide to tackle the big questions facing higher education today.

Where will your AALHE membership take you?

Bobbijo, Ruth and Joanna invite you to participate in the Generative AI Survey for Assessment Professionals, an initiative exploring the current landscape of GenAI in higher education assessment.

Participate now: Survey Link

This survey will gather insights from assessment professionals on the adoption, application, and implications of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in higher education assessment practices. Your responses will contribute to a deeper understanding of current and potential future trends, professional roles, and technological readiness across the field. This survey will be administered approximately every six months to capture the quickly changing landscape around the use of GenAI in higher education.

The survey will remain open through March 31st, we hope everyone will take some time to complete the survey. We will continue to send reminders over the next few weeks.

We anticipate sharing the results later this year. Stay tuned!

For questions, please contact:  Dr. Ruth Slotnick, Director of Assessment, ([email protected]), Joanna Boeing, Assistant Director of Assessment ([email protected]), or Dr. Bobbijo Grillo Pinnelli, Associate Dean, ([email protected]).
