Years in Assessment: 8

Leadership Roles Held in AALHE:  I currently serve on the ALE committee and previously served on the Intersection committee.

What brought you to assessment?

I started off teaching English at Beacon College, then running an Education Center for Saint Leo University. After I got married, I ended up in Middle Georgia. My first role in assessment was serving the College of Education at Mercer University, which seemed like a good fit with my background in analyzing stories and working with people and data. I have enjoyed doing assessments ever since!

How have you benefited from your AALHE membership?

I have made invaluable professional connections and had the opportunity to learn through committee service.

What do you think the future of assessment will look like?

I think the human element will become even more critical (e.g., authentic assessment), and there are opportunities for increased data literacy using technology as a visual translator.

What is the best career advice you can give?
Learn from people more experienced than you, and help others grow once you have some experience.

Describe a challenge you have faced in the world of assessment.

The nature of assessment requires utmost discretion and can be very isolating. Taking part in other activities around campus to support faculty and students helps with this challenge and renews the meaning of the work.

What are your hobbies or leisure activities?

I enjoy reading and spending time with my husband, Jonathan, and my daughter, Josephine.
