"The Well-Rounded Assessment Practitioner: Exploring the Skills, Knowledge, and Art of Assessment Practice in Higher Education"

  • June 3 – 5, 2012
  • Hotel Albuquerque - Old Town
  • Albuquerque, N.M.

The AALHE is no longer accepting proposals for conference presentations.

The AALHE’s Second Annual Conference will offer three presentation formats:

·         75-minute interactive presentations

·         75-minute roundtables

·         3-hour workshops

Presenters should explain on the proposal form how they will engage participants with the session material, and what level of assessment knowledge on the part of participants will be assumed – i.e., at what audience level is the session aimed: beginning, intermediate, or advanced.

Conference Theme:  The Well-Rounded Assessment Practitioner

This theme addresses the skills, knowledge, and art of assessment practice in an attempt to focus presentations on the how of assessment, rather than the what. That is, while presentations on effective programs and practice are welcome, those proposals that address the dynamics of effective assessment will be preferred over those that simply address the mechanics. Thus a proposal about a successful Assessment Day program that simply describes what happened will be less attractive to reviewers than one that discusses strategies for engaging staff, developing an institutional culture issue,  designing activities that produce effective analysis, and other strategies that produce effective assessment results and indicate successful assessment practice.

Proposals may be submitted by email to Conference@AALHE.org  through February 8, 2012. They will be reviewed as quickly as possible, and proposers will be notified of acceptance, modification requests, or rejections by February 29, 2012.

A pdf of the proposal form is attached below. If you prefer to have the form in Word format, please request it via email to AALHE staff at either Conference@AALHE.org or Info@AALHE.org.

We look forward to seeing you in New Mexico!
