ASSOCIATION FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION (AALHE)
AALHE is a professional association for assessment practitioners at colleges, universities, and higher education support organizations. It provides resources and a forum to support assessment practitioners’ professional development and the open discussion of issues, strategies, policies, and processes associated with higher education’s use of assessment as a tool to improve student learning and institutional effectiveness in fostering student success.
IMPLEMENTATION GOALS
To achieve its mission, AALHE will:
- Interact with accrediting agencies, government agencies, and higher education organizations to develop and promote effective practices associated with assessing and improving student learning at post-secondary institutions and organizations
- Establish a web presence that includes:
- Online exchanges and conversations on current assessment issues, trends and practices
- Special interest communities of practice, such as services and discussions for those spearheading institutional efforts to assess and improve student learning
- An electronic journal of current research
- Online interactions that address particular issues in assessment
- A clearinghouse for web-based resources and information about higher education assessment and improvement of learning, as well as examples of effective practice
- Sponsor professional development events about assessment practices, issues, and trends
- Seek funding and support for new initiatives in higher education assessment focused on improving student learning and institutional effectiveness
